My Students

My students are mixed ages 3-5 and can potentially be in my classroom for two years gaining all of the skills that they need to enter kindergarten in a low-income neighborhood in Philadelphia. They have a very hard job entering our school at the age of 3; they leave their guardian's side and enter a school schedule where they are asked to sit in a circle, share, and listen to a teacher, on top of learning math and literacy skills in 2 languages!

My school's Headstart Program is unique because we are bilingual.

Many of my children and their families speak Spanish. We work hard to embrace their culture and maintain their Spanish language while still teaching the English language they need to succeed. We aspire to build up the Latina community in Philadelphia, starting with the children.

My Project

This project contains sets of games that will serve as practice for my students in small group settings after learning a skill during whole group. These games make learning fun and allow students to practice skills such as sorting, comparing, patterning, word-building, rhyming, and adding without using dull work sheets. In Pre-K, learning should be fun, and this project would help my classroom to continue being a fun and exciting learning environment for my students.

I also asked for a puppet tree because our collection of puppets has grown and they do not have an accessible spot in the classroom for students to be able to use them to act out social situations and familiar stories.
