My Students

What? I have to read and write AGAIN? That is what I face each day when it comes to reading and writing with my ESL students. They struggle with these subject, so they don't want to practice them. I need materials that I can use to engage them during class time to be better readers and writers.

My students are all at-risk struggling learners.

They struggle because they are all English as a Second Language students, and they don't always understand the English language. My students are from China, Pakistan, Russia, and Mexico. They really try hard when it comes to learning, but they have the language obstacle to overcome. My students face many obstacles during the school day, and anything I can do to improve their skills will benefit them a great deal. They want to learn, but they don't have the materials to practice reading at home.

My Project

My students really need a portable white board easel, expo markers, and erasers so they can see what I am writing. Since I am a traveling teacher, I do not have a classroom, therefore, I do not have a white board. So when I give examples to the students I write on a piece of paper and take it around for each student to see. It is not an effective way to teach ESL students. They need to be able to see it all at the same time so we can talk about it. My students struggle with everyday words, and if we were able to write them and talk about them as a whole class I would be able to teach my students so much more.
