My Students

Math and Literacy Learning Centers

I am a Kindergarten teacher in a Title I school.

I serve a wonderful group of students who are very eager and enthusiastic about learning! The majority of our students are ESOL (speak languages other than English at home). We often have to work through language challenges that sometimes prevent students from mastering basic skills, such as letter and number recognition, and basic phonic and phonemic awareness skills.

I believe that my students learn best by doing, as do most people!! Because my students are mostly visual learners, hands-on centers and manipulative provide an engaging atmosphere for them to learn, and helps them understand the concepts they are being taught.

As earlier stated, I believe that students learn best by doing. Therefore, I think it is very important to provide hands-on, engaging opportunities for them to reinforce the skills and concepts they have been taught. The learning centers that I am requesting will provide a resource for students to hone in on skills, such as the alphabet, learning numbers and counting skills, as well as phonics and phonemic awareness. It is critical that students master these foundation skills early on.

My Project

The resources I am requesting will provide my students an opportunity to continue their learning by "doing". These materials will reinforce the skills the students have learned by giving them hands-on experiences as they use the materials. They will rely on their critical thinking and problem solving skills as they learn in a fun environment.

The language, math, and phonics learning centers will provide differentiated activities to aid students who are struggling with learning the alphabet, numbers, letter sounds, sight words, and critical phonemic awareness skills.

Social skills will also be enhanced as students gain valuable experience working together in small groups.

These resources are aligned to the common core standards, therefore setting students up for great success as they go further in their education!
