My Students

I am excited to begin my first year as a school librarian at a school where I will be motivating 455 students to read to succeed! "The more that you read, the more places you'll go! The more places you go, the more you will know!" ~ Dr. Seuss.

The students at my school range in ages from Kindergarten to 5th grade and are very diverse.

The students that come to my library every day have many different backgrounds. Some of the students speak two or more languages, some are academically gifted, and others are musically and artistically gifted. Each week, every class in the school comes to me in the library for a lesson or a story. The students truly love this time, especially STORY TIME! Their eyes light up, and each student is listening and involved in the story.

My Project

I am requesting a magnetic flannel and dry erase easel for the library. The easel will be used for numerous activities in the library during student story time. I believe that in the library, students should be encouraged and motivated to read, however, students learn important reading skills during their story time. While using the easel, the students will be able to sequence the story with flannel pieces, as well as fill out graphic organizers to help them with reading skills. The easel is also magnetic, which means that the students and I will be able to use magnetic pieces to sequence, make inferences, determine cause and effect, and main idea/details for the many, many stories we will read throughout the year. The easel can also be used for stations in the library after the lesson and checkout time.

Your generous donation will provide an easel that 455 students will be able to use in the library.

The easel will make story time more interactive for the students and allow them to use reading skills before, during, and after the story. So many children are visual learners, and this easel will provide that visual for the students. It will also enable the tactile and kinesthetic learners to get up and move items on the board to help them be successful learners in the library.
