Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math and Spanish. Using the workshop model in math, students come to the rug with whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. Calm items help children to practice identifying feelings and emotions to better manage stress, self-regulate and control their impulses. Even when the students move on to the next grade, it would still be familiar to them because it was implemented as a school-wide tier-one intervention. Universal language is important for children and having the same routine and structure makes children feel safe and comfortable because they know exactly what to expect, which helps reduce anxiety too.
