My Students
"Be the change that you wish to see in the world." (Mahatma Gandhi) In today's society, we want children to become problem-solvers and independent thinkers. We hope that children grow to become caring individuals and leaders in society.
My first graders have the potential to be anything they desire.
With engaging learning opportunities and motivating experiences that will boost their self-regulations skills, these students can more than exceed my expectations. One hundred percent of the students in our school are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged, and every student qualifies for free breakfast and lunch at school. About half of my students are English Language Learners, some coming from monolingual families. All of my students are working toward becoming self-regulators. My goal is to allow all of my students to learn and practice the skills necessary to consciously apply behavioral supports in order to self-manage stressors and help each other overcome stressful situations.
My Project
With the Feeling Buddies, students will be able to transform behavior problems into academic achievement! Students will learn the skill of self-regulation, which will help them identify their feelings and find productive solutions to their stressful situations. After I coach students on ways to manage emotions, students will have the opportunity to "coach" the Feeling Buddies. This will provide reinforcement to encourage students to independently resolve conflicts within themselves and with others.
Donations to this project will improve character education in my classroom.
Students will use the materials to learn the skills necessary for success in self-managing their behaviors. With the Feeling Buddies, my students will have opportunities to experience positive ways to solve conflicts independently.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
