Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students learn in an inclusive environment which includes students with special needs and typically developing students. My students attend an inclusive Preschool Collaborative Class (ETK/PCC). My students come from diverse backgrounds and have different abilities. Some of the students' disabilities that we serve include developmental delay, Autism, language impairment, and multiple disabilities.
My students come from low-income households and receive free school meals.
These students have vast potential and are eager to learn. They learn through observing and interacting with their typically developing peers as well as by providing them with learning opportunities and experiences to gain the skills necessary for success in their upcoming instructional years. I believe in early intervention and providing them with the tools necessary to succeed. By providing students with diverse learning experiences and early intervention that meets their needs, some of my students have been able to exit special education and join their peers in a general ed classroom curriculum when they transition into kindergarten.
My Project
Dr. Seuss book collection will help my students increase their phonemic awareness which are essential literacy skills. They will learn and practice rhyming words during book read-aloud. Students will also practice and learn social emotional skills such as sharing, keeping their hands to themselves with the positive behavior book collection which will be a great addition to our behavior managing strategies. The students will also enjoy read aloud when using the big books which are filled with colorful pages that engage our preschool learners and facilitate following along with the story and word and letter recognition. Students will also be able to explore the books on their own in our small classroom library.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
