Learning How to Be an Author!

My Students

My students are very active, energetic, and enthusiastic. They enjoy coming to school, learning new things, and playing with friends. As we work to foster a positive school environment, my students learn what it means to be respectful, responsible, and productive students.

As a teacher in a Title I school, many of my students live in areas of high poverty.

All of the students I teach are provided free breakfast and lunch each day. My students also have the option to participate in a free after school program in which dinner is provided. This program provides struggling students with the extra support they need to be successful in school and in life.

My Project

Mentor texts are a great way to provide students with examples of books written by real authors. They help students begin to recognize what authors do in their writing and illustrations to keep readers engaged. The goal is that students will then begin to apply what they learn from the mentor texts into their own writing.

My students need mentor texts to learn about how authors use words and illustrations to tell a story.

They need opportunities to interact with texts so they can learn about how authors craft texts in ways that are interesting to the reader.
