My Students

Our students are all special needs, ages 3-21. They enjoy things all students enjoy, hanging out with their friends, listening to music, all types of books, going new places, and seeing new things.

Our students LOVE books of all kinds; we read everything and discuss what impact different stories have at different times in our lives.

As we grow up, we may find very different meanings in a childhood classic. We love books with students who look like us, but sometimes it is hard to borrow books from the public library. Sometimes we aren't very quiet or still. Some of our students struggle with mental illness and are working to use their coping skills, being able to move while they learn is helpful and allows us to quiet our minds and bodies.

My Project

By changing the seating of the library, we will be better equipped to meet all of our students' needs. In addition to serving students who are medically fragile, we also serve students who are mentally ill and are learning to utilize their coping skills. Having flexible seating will help them practice these skills and help with self-regulation. We are working to quiet our minds and bodies, this will help us focus while we read and learn. This seating also offers us the chance to practice our behavior when we use the public library or transition to our home school.
