My Students
My students are curious, energetic, inquisitive, 4 year olds. We are a school family of 44 PK students divided into an AM and PM section. My students come from many different parts of the world and are speakers of other languages navigating in a world of English speakers. They are attending school for the first time and are acquiring English as a second or other language and require multi-sensory, hands-on learning activities with guidance and scaffolding.
Our school motto is preparing for Kindergarten and beyond and we continually strive to reach the goals set for us through a rich, play based learning environment that nurtures and encourages discovery.
My young learners eyes and voices light up when they enter the classroom and view the various learning areas and stations with bright colorful materials that stimulate learning.
These students joyfully explore reading, writing, mathematics, music, art, and physical education throughout our half day program on their journey to lifelong learning and success.
My Project
Look! See how tall my tower is!
Wow!
How many blocks to you think you have there?
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,…8! I have 8 big blocks that make my tower so tall!
All of these statements and wondering are evidence that learning is happening through play and are what I strive to hear and see happening in my early childhood classroom.
In the upcoming year our Early Childhood School will implement a program with 3 year old students. To make this a classroom of play based learning we will need materials that invite students to explore, create and discover.
A block play station is one of the essential stations in any early childhood classroom. Blocks provide children with the opportunity to exercise a variety of skills that will help them later in life. Blocks encourage social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills. They also encourage problem solving, symbolic thinking, and math concepts.
The different types of blocks included in this project will appeal to the variety of learners in my PK-3 classroom and boost their development.
As children replicate real-world designs from simple train tracks to a towering skyscraper, children are introduced to STEM. With the I Can Build It! construction planks students will use smooth planks with rounded edges, and photo cards color coded by level of difficulty while developing skills in fine motor control, structure and stability, balance and gravity and creative design.
Imaginations will be inspired with eco-friendly blocks made from real bamboo. The one-of-a kind Panda Village building set has all students need including 3 adult pandas and six cubs to create and explore.
With Soft and Safe Flexi blocks, Toddler Hardwood blocks, Bristle blocks, and crystal building blocks, students will be building successfully and learning the kid-friendly way.
