Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are full of energy, and crave kinesthetic activities. They enjoy learning through different modalities. By the end of the school year, I want my students to have improved in all core subject areas.
My students are kinder and 1st grade boys and girls, between the ages of 6-7.
They are students, that are eager to learn, even though they possess learning disabilities. They look forward to activities, where they feel a sense of self-fulfillment and achievement. They enjoy physical education, and are willing to express and show their strengths, through this outlet.
Because our school is located in a low socio-economic area, it is hard to obtain funds for physical education and classroom supplies, to meet their needs. However, our school stands, to provide a quality education to ALL students, by implementing strategies and connections, to make content accessible.
My Project
My students will use the Smart Bean Bag Toss Set, Foam Horseshoe Set, Beamo, and the Amusing Foam to practice different abilities, such as turn taking, and gross and fine motor skills. I believe that students need classroom materials such as magnetic hooks, display shelves, and storage boxes, to have educational materials accessible to them. The digital timer will be used, so students have a sense of structure, inside and outside the classroom. By having these materials, students will be enthusiastic about school and learning. Therefore, this will build self-confidence, and boost self-esteem. Even more, students will learn to listen and follow directions. Finally, they will learn social skills such as sharing, turn-taking, and hand-eye coordination. In all, students will be engaged in meaningful experiences!
The physical education and classroom materials will make a difference in my students' lives, because they will gain confidence in the school setting and in the personal setting.
The confidence gained, will improve their self-esteem, and increase their risk taking, in academic areas.
