My Students
The student body in this specialized high school for math, science and engineering is drawn from all five New York City boroughs and has been recognized by the New York Times as the most diverse with a population of 32% Asian, 24% white, 24% Hispanic and 18% African American. Their diversity and dedication to learning brings out the best! They they are incredibly kind to each other and respect and admire each other's differences.
The students in the Guitar Ensemble class have elected to be there and are motivated to learn all they can about the guitar and its music.
They range in ability from beginner to advanced and are eager to participate. They apply themselves enthusiastically to challenging material and are inquisitive. They are very musical and are excited to perform and learn to read music.
My Project
The Essential Elements for Guitar method book covers everything a guitar player needs to learn in order to play well. It covers note reading on all six strings and basic chord shapes used to play hundreds of songs. It has excellent graphics and pictures for student reference. The repertoire included covers a wide range of genres and can be used to program school performances. I have been using these books for years so I know that with these books and a guitar in hand students will be playing and developing confidence in a matter of hours!
