Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach at a low income, latino community where acceptable TV and/or video viewing in the home is rare. Also, parents are unable and/or unwilling to take their child to the public library in order to check out educational videos. My first graders are crazy about viewing quality DVDs that are related to our units of study such as author studies and thematic units. If I had a quality collection of programs in my classroom, I could really supplement my curriculum with increasingly humorous and exciting video viewing. These videos offer excellent information and encourage intellectual curiosity. It's amazing to me how encouraging appropriate (and appropriately timed) DVD viewing can be when learning about specific topics.
