Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our third grade classroom, students are using a variety of engaging tools to build their understanding of fractions. Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) fraction resources, such as interactive games, visual worksheets, and real-world word problems, help students see how fractions are used in everyday life. These materials allow students to practice identifying, comparing, and representing fractions in fun, meaningful ways. By working through activities that include pizza slices, number lines, and shaded shapes, students strengthen their ability to think about parts of a whole and develop confidence with fraction vocabulary.
Alongside these resources, students use graph paper and magnetic fractions to deepen their understanding with hands-on learning.
Graph paper helps students accurately divide shapes and number lines into equal parts, which builds precision and visual understanding. Magnetic fraction pieces make it easy for students to manipulate and compare fractions on the whiteboard, encouraging collaborative exploration. Whether they're stacking 1/4s to make a whole or comparing 1/3 to 1/2, students benefit from seeing and physically working with fractions to grasp tricky concepts more clearly.
