Learning For My ESOL Students

My Students

I work with English Language Learners from a variety of backgrounds. I want to ensure that they are receiving the highest quality instruction possible.

I work with ELLs in a variety of setting in the elementary school classroom.

Over the years I have been surprised that the majority of the English Learners that I work with are born in the United States. I am constantly looking with strategies that best fit these students, some of which do not have a firm foundation in their home language and who live in poverty. My school is beginning to implement Responsive to Intervention. I am looking for strategies to effectively implement this for English language learners.

My Project

I am requesting professional books about RTI English as a Second Language Teaching Strategies and differentiation strategies for ELLs. I am also requesting multicultural books, reading comprehension cards and manipulatives to practice new strategies as I read about them. These materials will help me to learn more about the most effective ways to implement RTI for ELLs. This knowledge will allow me to refine my tier one instruction, and learn more about tier 2 and 3 instruction for those ELs requiring intervention. This knowledge will benefit my students by helping them to reach their full academic potentional and that when necessary they are receiving appropriate intervention.

The knowledge that I gain from these professional development materials will help refine my teaching craft.

It will also insure that my students are receiving high quality instruction that helps them become proficient at the same level as their native English peers.
