Learning Financial Literacy With a Classroom Economy

My Students
Being a first grade teacher, I would like to provide a fun, exciting, and engaging learning environment for my students. Our first graders are energetic, bright, motivated, and take pride in their learning. Many of our students come from low-income families. I would like to provide my students with an experience of a lifetime that they would never forget and would be able to apply this experience in their everyday life.
My Project
"Children need a strong foundation early on in life to build strong money habits." These materials will be used to teach my students to about the basics of money. Students in return will use their knowledge about money to create a classroom economy. The Financial Literacy Hands-On Money Kit from Lakeshore will provide hands-on experience with learning what each coin and bill looks like and how much it is worth. The fake coins and cash register will be used to pay students for their "jobs" where they can then spend money in our classroom store.
