Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Enthusiasm. Humor. Joy. Eagerness. Character. These are just a few words that can describe what I see every day! My students come from a diverse background, but they come mostly from disadvantaged situations that create bigger and more difficult challenges for these young children.
Making learning fun and engaging is a priority of mine, and sometimes you have to step outside the box.
I am constantly searching new and exciting ways to present information that might otherwise be "boring" with the hope that not only academic needs will be met, but also emotional and social needs.
My Project
This project will allow my students to learn, practice, and engage with each other as they strengthen their mastery of English. The activities that I have chosen, such as VersaTiles and literacy games, will provide many opportunities for students to practice all domains of English -- reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Who doesn't love to play games and have an array of activities to help them learn new things?
VersaTiles activities allow for differentiation within groups and immediate feedback for students working independently. Each kit includes many different aspects of literacy that are meant to be used again and again. Other items in this project also contribute to the idea of making learning fun and engaging, such as phonics and word games.
One of the most difficult things for English learners to master is new vocabulary and sentence structure. An important aspect of mastering a new language is by learning new vocabulary and applying it to build good sentences in speaking and in writing. This project will certainly help my students do that!
