Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

According to a study that was published in 2018, it was said that graphic novels can help multilingual learners with comprehension and memory retention when it came to reading. Learning a second language is challenging for anyone, but when you are learning a new language along with learning how to read in that language it can be extra challenging and frustrating for multilingual learners. Graphic novels provide them with the opportunity to learn through words with more explicit pictures.

I serve a wide variety of language learners ranging from not proficient in English to learning English proficiency.

Many of my students are new immigrants to the US or have just arrived in the US within the last few years.

I am hoping this project provides my students with more access to English text that will lead to better comprehension and understanding

when they are reading academic text or just for enjoyment.
