Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an ENL teacher working in one of the poorest districts in the nation. Most of my English Language Learners live in shelter homes with parents that work very hard to give their children a better chance in life. They live in an urban setting that is very stimulating and yet they do not have the means to take advantage of what the city has to offer. I love teaching English to my students but they need many resources.
My Project
Learning a language is not easy unless it is fun. I believe these resources are critical to my students' learning. My project focuses on getting my students fun hands-on activities that will enhance the acquisition of the English language.
My goal is to build their language skills with the help of these learning resources.
After months of online classes, I believe hands-on activities are more creative, enriching, engaging and the information is better retained. The puzzles, the vocabulary match-up set, and the sight word activity center will enrich my students' vocabulary and they will be very engaging for my kinesthetic learners. All my ELLs and in particular my auditory learners will benefit from the use of the listening centers. Whereas, the skill-building and reading centers will support my ELLs and visual learners when addressing reading fluency and comprehension. These tools and resources will help them learn a new language in a fun and supportive way.
