I teach English as a New Language (formerly English as a Second Language) to kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. My students are always excited to learn new things. They are curious and love to ask questions.
My students come from immigrant families and diverse backgrounds.
Some of the languages spoken in their homes are Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, and Urdu. They are mostly beginning readers and writers. My students get along extremely well with each other and they just love school.
My Project
The desktop computer in my classroom is almost 15 years old and it runs on Windows XP. I was told by NYC DOE tech support that they are unable to update/upgrade the computer because it is simply too old. As a result, my students do not have access to many great educational resources online due to incompatibility.
With this new desktop computer, my students will be able to watch educational videos, go on virtual field trips, and access resources online.
This new desktop computer will also allow me to prepare materials for my students to use in the classroom. It will make learning English even more fun for my students.
More than half of students from low‑income households
