Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an amazing group of active learners! They come to school eager to learn with unique modalities, and absorb information from their learning experiences in the classroom, connections they make to real-world experiences, and pro-social relationships they develop with their peers.
These dynamic students are inquisitive and developing young problem-solvers relating to their learning environment in collaboration with their peers.
My students are all English Language Learners of various levels. They participate in a daily Reading Foundations Intervention Academies and benefit from many opportunities for rigorous academic discussion with language support throughout the day. One thing I love about my students is their constant thirst for knowledge and discovery!
My Project
Everyone loves a good read. What makes for an even better story is literature that students can identify and empathize with. When that story displays a challenge that is overcome with resilience, perseverance, and strengthened character, the experience results in a "best read". I plan to use this classroom set to illustrate the virtue of empathy to my students through read-alouds, socratic method literature circles, written response to literature, and role-play. The stories in this class set will be used in tandem with a school-wide social-emotional development curriuculum to engage students in learning how to make best choices and respond proactively when problem-solving.
