Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This school year, 2021-2022, I really want to take the approach of "Getting Things Done."
I am currently teaching High School Special Education Grades 7-12 and my class consists of 6 students who are in their teens and have a classification of Autism.
These kids come into school every day with a smile on their face, ready to learn. Their resiliency and their determination to learn is what motivates me everyday. They come from all different corners of this city and my kids are AWESOME! Really no other way to say it.
Our class is an entirely new class to our school this year and I want to make them proud of their class and their school environment. I want my scholars to feel comfortable and safe in our room and once they see the level of support paired with meaningful intent, they will open up and flourish inside and out of the classroom. My students deserve the best that we have to offer because they expect a lot from their school staff.
My Project
These materials were selected based on the specific learning targets or goals that my students need. A lot of these materials are physical objects that students are able to manipulate and use within the classroom. For example, I have one student who has some fine-motor grip issues and the wooden tracing block is a great resource to have to work on letter recognition and to help with her occupational therapy goals. We also included some fun, educational games that students can play with and see fun ways we can learn our Math and ELA material. This project is all abut supplying my students with fun and engaging materials to make their school experience that much better!
