This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
After a two-year hiatus as a Technology TOSA, I returned to the classroom and now teach a 1st/2nd grade SDC classroom. I'm hoping that with your help - we can get some much needed supplies for my new classroom.
My students are scientists, engineers, coders, mathematicians, artists, and dreamers!
They are curious, engaged, and eager to learn about anything and everything. Many of my students come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and don't have access to many of the resources we take for granted - such as essential play items. I hope to change that with this project!
My students are eager to learn and I want them to be able to learn through play, while addressing important social skills, standards, and more! But I need your help in getting them the materials they need to be successful beyond our class!
My Project
Play and learning go hand-in-hand! Research consistently shows the physical, cognitive, social and emotional benefits of bringing play into the classroom - no matter the age of the student.
Knowing these benefits, I want to provide my students with special needs every opportunity possible to incorporate play into our classroom routines.
Play is a primary and integral way through which students make sense of their world. It is essential to their well-being and cognitive development. Additionally, it supports 21st learning skills like collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.
Our classroom currently lacks items for students to play and interact with. These items - bristle blocks, building bricks, marble runs, and a kitchen play set & accessories - will provide my students with special needs a unique opportunity to use play to learn and grow! We will also be able to use these items for our STEM challenge, literacy activities, math and more!
