My Students

Our school seeks to provide a safe learning environment where students can develop a positive self-image and acquire the necessary skills to further their intellectual, physical and social development.

My students strive to improve their personal and intellectual capacity on a daily basis.

They enjoy working with each other and sharing the personal assets supplied by their diverse backgrounds. That said, their hard work and collaborative spirit are integral parts of the school's mission for ensuring their success in the future.

My Project

This project uses a simple toy like Legos to teach valuable skills including civics knowledge, building, engineering and financial literacy.

The project requires a team of students to build various parts of a city with Legos while solving realistic problems presented by the teacher.

Each student will be assigned a role, such as project manager, architect, accountant, lawyer or builder.

More specifically, using a 4’x5’ preprinted city layout to build on, the students will receive directions explaining what part of the city to build, what materials (legos) to use, how much each piece of material costs, their budget to spend, applicable laws and regulations, and a unique problem that must solved to complete the project.

That said, this project seeks to teach several important life skills in a ‘hands-on’ manner.

First, the students will learn how an ordinary municipality is structured, along with how the different entities collaborate to provide citizens with essential services.

Second, the project builds cognitive skills related to engineering and building that can be applied to STEM courses.

Third, students will learn financial literacy skills by maintaining a ledger of revenue and expenses and adhering to a budget. These valuable skills will help them in and out of school to competently handle everyday financial decisions.

Lastly, this project requires group cooperation. Each member is provided a job that makes them essential to the project, thus requiring all students to collaborate in a respectful and efficient manner to accomplish their collective task.

Overall, this project will teach important life skills that students can use in a variety of environments. Thus, I would greatly appreciate any donation for this fun and engaging project that will provide my students with skills to draw upon as they continue to develop as citizens.
