This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are inspirational!! They inspire me to teach in ways that will reach each and every one of them on an individual level. They are special students with special needs. They have been identified with Autism as well as for some, Specific Learning Disabilities. My students are intelligent and eager to learn. They can be silly and playful at times. They love to learn new things and show what they already know as well. But most importantly, they love school and I want to make sure that continues!
The things that I can teach and use to make learning fun and meaningful will help my students grow as important, productive members of our school community and society.
Learning for my students must be hands-on. Learning for them must be interesting. Learning for them must be active. Being active participants in their own learning is most important and most beneficial to the development of their minds and bodies. Materials that help us to keep our learning organized is also important. Things that allow for family participation is important as well.
I need your help to make learning the best experience it can be for my students!
My Project
Many of my students lack the fine motor skills needed to have a proper grip for writing using tools such as pencils, pens, and markers. This difficulty with properly gripping a writing tool leads to difficulty with writing legible letters, words, sentences, and stories. Not to mention, students also display difficulty with drawing -- and for many students who are still learning the alphabet, drawing is their best form of communicating their thoughts for writing projects and assignments.
Magnetic activity boards to the rescue!!
With the materials provided by generous and caring donors like you, my students will be able to practice the skills they have already learned, such as identifying colors, shapes, sorting, and counting, while strengthening their fine motor skills and grip for writing. They will be doing this without even realizing it, which for many students will be helpful since sometimes their hands do feel in pain when they are focused on writing. This way, through "play," they will have gain, without pain!
