My Students
We are an urban, high needs elementary school. We have a large free-lunch population and have a large percentage of learners with special needs.
We are an ICT class with a mix of general education and special education students.
We service all of our students with the same energy and intensity, but some students require additional supports and that is what we aim to provide. We scaffold every lesson so there is an entry point for each child, and try to provide the types of physical and emotional supports so our special students can succeed.
My Project
Many of our students who struggle to read use audio support to help them to access the same literature as more fluent readers. We will use this equipment to enable individuals and book club groups to listen to the same books being read by their peers. This ability to read the same material increases moral and allows for whole class discussions that can include all of our learners. Much of learning is about feeling energized and inspired; we work hard to create an environment where students needs are met without having to have students feel that they are being held to lower standards. All students can learn and succeed.
Students will use the earphones and splitters to listen to a book as a group for bookclub.
They will use the stands to be able to take notes and read comfortably. The speaker will allow us to play the Mr. Turupt audio book for the whole class as some read along and the pencil cases are just a new way I am trying to keep the kids organized!
