My Project

My classroom is unique, and I teach a life skills class. Each of my students is gifted in their own beautiful ways. My students have learning difficulties, but they are amazing, incredible learners.

Our classroom is set up differently than most classrooms to better meet the needs of our students.

In my classroom, we do stations so that my students are in very small groups. In this way, we are better able to meet the needs of each learner.

My classroom focuses on academic learning but also provides students the opportunities to develop and practice necessary life skills. Developing these skills early helps to promote success for my students.

One station in my classroom is task boxes. This station helps students develop independence while working on academic and social skills. In this station, students work on specific goals. For several students this year learning to dress for the weather is a vital goal. The 18 inch doll with clothing for the weather would help students understand what clothes are appropriate for the type of weather. The sand would provide students some sensory integration while using fine motor skills to maneuver tools in the sand. Students would also be able to make and identify letters using the letter molds.
