Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember playing and pretending with other children when you were 4 years old? How fun and exciting it was. That is what I want my students to feel when they go to centers. Playing is very effective in helping children blend the skills they are learning in school in a stress free environment.
My school is located in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood.
The students must be in a lower income bracket to qualify for pre-k. Many of their parents are either from Hispanic countries or are first generation Americans. My four and five year olds come eager and ready to learn about the world around them. They especially love learning through play.
My Project
The Wireless Classroom Headphones Set and Portable CD Player will help my students increase their listening and vocabulary skills. This will encourage my children to read by making a connection between the spoken words and written language.
I have many books on tapes and CD's. I do not however have headphones or a CD player for the students to use.
Indestructible Pots & Pans Play set & Kitchen Play set will encourage my students to interact and socialize with each other. They will be able to incorporate writing and reading into this center by making lists and labels when they play house.
Math objectives such as one to one and estimation can also be practice in a very fun way.
Washable Liquid Watercolors help students with pre-writing skills by developing fine motor skills.
The items I am asking for will help my students in many of the fundamental skills needed to be learned in a pre-k class.
The listening, dramatic play and art centers help the students connect and practice the objectives they are learning and being exposed to in my class. All of this while they are having FUN. As we all know that is the best way for children to learn. That is also what develops the love of learning for years to come in children.
