Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are serious computer scientists in the making! My Mobile Apps students are highly motivated and passionate about technology. In our class, we learn by doing and experimenting with code. Programming can be frustrating, and that is exactly how we also become better programmers-- every "bug" in our program is one more lesson learned.
We also worked towards getting certified as Microsoft Office Specialists and we had 75% of those who took all three tests reaching this goal.
We are getting job ready and preparing to be 21st century leaders.
My Project
The sad reality at our school is that a frequent occurrence is students that have not had breakfast for a variety of personal circumstance. Education requires a lot of focus and it is simply impossible to be expected to be actively engage in the classroom if a student has not had anything to eat. or is embarrased about their appearance.
As educators we are asked to social-emotional needs of students and that sometimes includes something as simple as a snack or deodrant.
At our school as in many, we do have a homeless population--whether that means floating with other family members or a different arrangement. These students have basic needs for hygiene and snacks in order to excel in the classroom. These supplies will help my students focus on the only thing they should focus on at school--learning and achieving their academic goals.
