Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Kehinde Wiley is an American portrait painter from New York City known for his naturalistic paintings of African Americans. His work references the work of Old Master paintings. Wiley was commissioned to paint former President Barack Obama's portrait for the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. My goal for the project is my students will appreciate and be inspired by the work of African American artist Kehinde Wiley. Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of proportion, line, and shape through the creation of a realistic self-portrait. Students will use the multicultural crayons and colored pencils to create more accurate skin tones. These special materials will motivate and engage students making a difference in their learning. My students are unique and different and have a variety of different skin tones. We will have the ability to illustrate the skin colors of our student population more accurately.
