My Students
Defining problems, using creativity, applying research, building prototypes, and developing solutions are just some of the skills that students use when they are in my STEM classroom. Through the design process, my students are learning skills that will enable them to succeed in their future. I am currently in my 14th year of teaching middle school science, but I am always looking to implement new techniques into my curriculum to engage students for science.
Science has the ability to excite and amaze students.
When students are engaged in a hands-on activity, they are learning without even realizing it! In my inner-city classroom, students of all cultures, creeds, and backgrounds meet with a common goal.
A typical day in my classroom involves my students learning science while working together to solve problems. Many express a desire to work in a STEM career, and nothing makes me happier than continuing to expand my skills and knowledge so that I can support my students in their growth.
My Project
I am requesting support to be able to travel to Chicago in June to attend ISTE. I will also need the registration fee and lodging while in Chicago. Teaching Science has changed recently to an integrated STEM curriculum. I have started developing and implementing this program in my class over the last two years. The ISTE conference will afford me the opportunity to see what other educational technology professionals are doing in their classrooms, what is working and what to avoid. In this way, I will be able to better plan and implement my curriculum. The ISTE includes access to more than 900 sessions and learning opportunities, entry to an interactive expo hall featuring more than 500 companies, three thought-provoking keynotes, and opportunities to connect and network with more than 15,000 fellow educators and education leaders.
These opportunities will enable me to broaden our school's network and connect our classrooms across the state, country, and world.
By funding this project, I will be able to attend the ISTE in Chicago for the conference.
