My students need storage containers to organize our new classroom library books. All of our books and storage containers were ruined by the standing flood waters caused by Hurricane Matthew.

My Students
Margaret Mead stated, "Children must be taught to how to think, not what to think." It is my belief that by introducing my students to a variety of diverse literature, it will help them to begin questioning the world around them and analyzing the experiences they encounter.
My students are third graders from low-income neighborhoods that were very recently ravaged by Hurricane Matthew; however, they are not defined by this status.
They are diligent and enthusiastic. Moreover, they are ambitious and self-motivated.
Our school is high-performing on state mandated assessments, and our faculty's high expectations for our students are clearly communicated. Our students know that their teachers care and want to see them succeed. The goal of our faculty is to create lifelong learners and readers; therefore, creating critically-thinking citizens who endeavor to be the change they want to see in the world.
My Project
These organization bins will contain the new titles in our classroom library in the wake of Hurricane Matthew for students to browse during self-selected, independent reading times.
The donation of these books bins will improve our classroom by providing my students with the an organized opportunity to engage in life experience outside the four walls of our classroom through the titles they select.
Great literacy instruction helps children learn what it means to be human. If I can hook my students on reading at a young age, then it will be a skill that will follow them for the rest of their lives. Reading is a powerful tool that opens doors and provides opportunities.
