Help me give my students comfortable headphones with microphones so that they can participate in class with their virtual classmates, as well as masks and cleaning supplies to keep them safe during in person instruction.
I have six students in my self-contained Special Education classroom. So far this year I have one students in second grade, four students in third grade, and one student in fourth grade.
All of my students are in our school because they need a different learning environment to be successful.
In our class, we learn about reading, language, math, science, social studies, and other subjects. We also learn about social skills and coping skills. Each student has special needs and teaching a class with multiple grade levels takes a lot of resources!
My Project
Students love to work together during lessons, and that does not change when some are in person and some are virtual. With the headphones the students can still work together virtually, even if they are not together in person. They can also work on independent work to further their learning interests with fun and engaging programs like Prodigy. Working independently with the headphones will be less distracting for students who are working on other things, and it helps to keep everyone engaged while virtual students receive assistance.
The students in my class have all risen to the challenges that we have faced in this unprecedented time, from wearing masks to cleaning up their desks at the end of the day.
My students can have trouble regulating their emotions and behavior, but they are motivated to follow guidelines when we make it fun. I am requesting some fun child-sized masks for my students so that they have something to wear that they will enjoy. The adult masks will be used to keep the staff better protected as we work with students who need more one-on-one assistance. I am also requesting some cleaning wipes so that we can continue to clean our desks and work areas throughout the day.
