it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am so lucky to get to work with ALL the K-5th grade students in my building and next year, we will get to have our own classroom for our weekly Social Emotional Learning lessons. Allowing students to choose seating that works the best for them is a wonderful way to get and keep them motivated and engaged. During our weekly lessons, students will be doing a lot of partner and group sharing and this furniture will be easy to move and allow them the ability to practice the skills in a more realistic, conversational setting. When students can have some ownership in decision making regarding different aspects of their learning, they are more invested and excited to learn.
Being able to choose the kind of seating that helps them be and do their very best is such an empowering experience for students.
It is also my hope that this classroom and the furniture in it will be used even when Social Emotional Learning classroom lessons are not taking place. I would love for this space to be used as a safe and comfortable place for students who may be needing a quiet, calming environment to collect their thoughts and regulate their brains and bodies to continue on with their day in a productive manner.
