My students attend an urban charter school in Baltimore. They come from various areas of the city and various backgrounds. Despite the hardships of living in low poverty households, my students are eager to learn and very entergetic in the classroom. They are motivated learners who are at the beginning of their school journey and in need of some extra encouragement to maintain their focus during independent work. They strive to try their best even when faced with adversity in their lives.
My Project
Many of my students tend to be very fidgety both at tables and on the carpet. The stools and seats I chose for this project will allow students to move slightly while maintaining focus for instruction and independent work.
My students exhibit behaviors that include rocking back and forth on the rug, flipping sideways on chairs, rubbing their hands around the carpet, and touching other students near them on the rug.
My students will benefit from having small sensory fidgets to hold on the rug, so they won't disturb others, and special seats that allow them the chance to move slightly while not disturbing others in the class.
