Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I will be teaching about 30 third graders in a Title 1 school in North Philadelphia. Our neighborhood is a high crime and low income area. Every year it is a challenge for our students to purchase the school supplies that they need to succeed in school. Sometimes they can't complete their homework because they didn't have a pencil, notebook, or folder. Even worse, some of my students would come to school with no book bags.
However, they still manage to come to school eager to learn everyday.
They are so intelligent and creative and deserve the best education available. With your help and support I am positive that my students will appreciate and be thankful for the rest of the year.
My Project
This year I want my students to be autonomous learners and thinkers. I want them to be able to work in small groups reading about social and scientific issues around the world. Students will build confidence and collaborate with their peers reading about issues that are important to them and other children.
The headphones and Scholastic News magazines will provide my 3rd graders the opportunities to become independent learners.
They will be able to interact and actively engaged with one another to confer and learn new ideas and concepts with little supervision. They learn social and civic issues while reading Scholastic News magazines, at the same time team building skills. With the Map Skills for Today, my students will learn how to read maps and geographical skills. The headphones will provide my students (who need extra intervention skills) a private space to listen and learn educational programs without interruptions and distractions. The fadeless paper rolls will allow me to provide a colorful print-rich classroom environment, whereby I can showcase their academic successes.
Your generous support and donation to our project will improve 3rd classroom by building good readers and independent learners.
