Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All my students are so special in many ways that make my day so interesting. Their hunger for more knowledge drives me to learn more to share more cutting edge technology with them. My class is a hands-on class where they apply problem-solving and critical thinking to solve and complete their projects.
My school is a Title l Public Magnet school, The population is multicultural.
My classes are composed mostly of students whose parents have a low socioeconomic status so many students have free or reduced-price lunch. My students possess normal to advanced cognitive abilities; they have an excellent attitude towards learning STEM and display good behavior in class. Many of them were born overseas and currently experience the typical barriers that immigrants face during their first years of assimilation into our culture - disadvantages such as language barriers, low socioeconomic status, lack of technology at home (Computers and Internet access), and lack of exposure to hands-on STEM activities from their native countries.
My Project
Supplies are the key factor in making this project go from an idea to a 3D printed product. This product is designed by my students, which demonstrates their understanding of TinkerCad. The students will design a 3D original prototype using TinkerCad, which they will then make their design real with the 3D printer.
Using our MakerBot 3D printers we will be able to design and make a 3D Shampoo Bottle to be judged at the 2018 Miami-Dade County Fair. This category at the Fair requires the student to make a package and label that includes an original product name or logo for the 3D shampoo bottle.
Designing the whole package and making the bottle will challenge the students in the design process to produce a effective end product. It will also teach them layout and advertising principles.
After judging, their 3D created bottles and packages will be on display to be viewed by the whole community and the students' families that attends the Miami-Dade County Fair in the area of Technology Education - Graphic Arts.
