My Students
This will be my first year teaching special education, after 13 years as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher. My students are special needs students who need a lot of hands-on materials to gain their interest, as well as to help them learn. They range from being verbal to non-verbal, from readers to non-readers, and from independent to students requiring extra support. No matter their disability, they are all special and unique and I want to help make coming to school special and fun.
My Project
My students are learning adaptive learning skills and a monthly trip to the market will teach my students where groceries are located in the market and how to choose fruits and vegetables to eat well. Each month we will make a shopping list of things we need in the classroom and students will have input as to what we will choose. Students will then learn the different departments at Fairway Market and look for the items in our shopping list.
My students are learning how to eat well, but a monthly trip will help them with their adaptive learning skills and be able to fend for themselves as they get older
