Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are so excited to attend school. They love being able to come into the school building and learn. This group of students is enthusiastic about storytime and learning the letters of the alphabet. They love to identify the letters in their names. Mari is making it serious business to write his name independently. They seem to be absorbing everything that happens in the classroom - remote or in the building. Due to the pandemic, we can't allow parents into the building, but we do get to communicate during our class Zoom meetings. One mom told us that she is happy that her daughter loves school online and in the building! It warmed my heart to know that the littlest scholars are excited to grow and learn.
My Project
Our class learns from school and at home as well. We do lots of learning together in class. The floating letter and number finders will help my pre-k students on their road to reading.
When the children are at home they do not have materials to participate actively in Zoom lessons.
They need more than videos. Little ones need to be active. I would like to plan lessons and that the children can participate in because they have supplies at their fingertips. Materials such as the blocks are versatile and will allow the children to plan, create, sort, build, and understand the relationship between shapes and recreate scenes from stories. Many of our children live in small hotel rooms or apartments. The musical scarves and CD will get the children moving at home in a safe way that will not interfere with a sibling's remote classes.
These items will afford the students the opportunity to become budding kitchen scientists by using water droppers and magnifying lenses all their own!
