My students need transportation to Six Flags. This is a culminating interdisciplinary activity for our sixth graders.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Lambert's classroom raised $943

My Students
Last summer, our sixth grade team came up with the idea for our year-end sixth grade class trip. As inner city students of highest poverty, many of our students have never once gone to a single amusement park; their experience is limited to glimpses on You Tube. We decided on Six Flags.
Leading up to this culminating trip, students would learn aspects of the amusement park in every subject.
In Social Studies,, students would learn about the history of the amusement park. In Math, students would learn about the physics of the roller coaster and would create a budget. In Language Arts, students would write a narrative essay about a day in the amusement park and would also create an imaginative brochure. In Science, students would create virtual or model roller coasters. In Spanish, students would learn fun new words in Spanish.
They've been doing their wonderful activities all year and are really proud to show their products in a year end display for parents.
The problem? Our budget froze and they can no longer go.
My Project
The trip to Six Flags would be a deeply meaningful experience for our students. Not only would it be a celebratory culmination in a years' worth of learning, synthesizing multiple subject areas in a hands-on experiential way, but it would also, for many of them, be an opportunity to visit an amusement park for the first time in their lives.
The transportation costs would enable the students to go to Six Flags.
Otherwise, they have no way of getting there. Once there, the students will be able to experience a wonderful day that will be both educational and full of happiness and good memories.
