My Students

I want my students to be the best that they can at the end of the school year. I want them to love learning and know how to learn what they want to. I want them to not only be able to understand the core but be able to apply it in ways that appeal to them. I want them to be happy and enjoy school.

I teach a classroom full of gifted and talented second graders.

They come from various ethnic backgrounds and are especially good in at least one academic area. However this does not mean that everyone is good at every area. They love to delve into projects that interest them and want to do more than extra worksheets or the skill building games that I have for them.

My Project

With these Chromebooks and headphones students that are advanced in the area that I am teaching for that portion of the day will be able to go online and make things with the knowledge that they already have on this subject and be able to expand their knowledge with real application. Such as going on to booktrackclassroom.com to write and publish stories (which is more engaging when they get to add music and sound effects) or creating games/videos on https://scratch.mit.edu/ using the codeing skills they learned during hour of code to show their knowledge of the skill I am working with the rest of the class on.

With these donations my students will be inspired to do more with their lives than play video games, they will make them or create stories.

They may go on to be the next genius computer programmers. But more importantly to me they will love to come to school, they will have new ways to express themselves, and they will be actually USING THEIR KNOWLEDGE, not just practicing it.
