Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students often think that having money is all about being smart or being born into a wealthy family. I tell them that this is not necessarily true. In his book The Psychology of Money, journalist Morgan Housel presents a case for how average people can make lots of money if they develop the discipline and grit to save money monthly and invest it in the Stock Market. Furthermore, I remind my students that to achieve wealth, one has to become literate in financial terms and speak the language of money.
My goal is to have my students read this book in class, write their financial goals, and commit to an investment strategy.
In this case, I would encourage them to practice dollar-cost averaging and invest in index funds—no-fee funds.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
