Help me give my students the opportunity to learn about the world! Scholastic News was my favorite part of the week when I was an elementary student, and I want to share the excitement with my students!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am teaching kindergarten, and most of my students have never been in school before. We will be starting the year online only. We are still working really hard to learn routines and expectations. On the first day, these little ones will be expected to sit in front of a screen and talk to someone they've never met before. They will be meeting their classmates the same way. I know they will be excited, and while I have to teach them absolutely everything, they have wonderful potential to become great learners!
My Project
I loved getting a Weekly Reader when I was in elementary school and learning about things that were not in our textbooks or regular curriculum. When I learned that Scholastic was now producing a Scholastic News edition that was the natural follow-up to that newsletter, I knew I had to be able to share them with my students!
I believe that the broad variety of topics included in Scholastic News/Let's Find Out are a wonderful way to introduce young students to ideas they may never experience otherwise.
There are topics from groundhogs and dentists to Earth Day and illustrators! I am excited for the opportunity to share these incredible magazines!
I have included the Science magazine as a support for our in-class science activities. There are so many topics that can support students in learning the standards, and these will expand my students' thinking. I am excited that these will also be something I can use digitally - I can mail the individual magazines to my students (they will get mail!) and we can go over the magazines using the digital tools during our online meetings!
