Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a bi-lingual special education teacher currently teaching in a high need school in Washington Heights, NYC. At this school over 30% of the students are English language learners and over 80% receive free or reduced lunch. I am currently teaching 2 sections of Global 1 and Global 2, respectively.
The obstacle that I am facing is that I do not have enough resources to motivate my students and deliver my lesson effectively. I am requesting atlases for my students and maps for the classroom. My students are very visual and when I am teaching about a specific country we must resort to using the small maps in the textbooks which are not very interesting. If the class had large maps and the students had their own atlases then I feel that they could enrich their learning because they can see the location and the size of the countries.
By donating these maps you can help students learn about different parts of the world because they will have visual access. In turn this will motivate them and hopefully awaken a curiosity in them to become more inquisitive.
