Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a brand new Global Studies school and are expected to learn about and value different cultures from around the world. Multicultural books and expository resources are very limited for my students and these magazines can certainly aid my students in learning about the world.

My second grade students are mostly English Language Learners and mostly from low income families.

They attend a school with limited resources but yet are very enthusiastic when it comes to participating in their own learning. They love to read stories and have stories read to them, which is how many of them learn academic vocabulary needed to achieve in society.

My Project

Time for Kids will provide my students age appropriate expository writings that they will be able to analyze and discuss with their peers. My students will not only learn to analyze expository writing, but they will also learn about the diversity and multiculturalism that surrounds them. They will also learn to take notes using text features and structures which will also prepare them for many things to come!

The school they attend is in a large urban city where the majority of the inhabitants have very similar ethnic backgrounds as my students.

It is rare for any of my students to travel outside their city and visit locations like museums and culture centers. This magazine subscription will bring those things to my students, thus exposing them to an array of cultures and maybe even some problems facing students their own age.
