A hands-on learning experience is crucial for English Language Learners in a science classroom. Learning about the world around us can be fun and engaging. It is even more engaging when it is brought to life for students, and each student gets the chance to create his or her own project. This is what I want my students to experience. I want them to be able to create their own ecosystem. I have a group of English Language Learners acquiring English and trying to learn Earth science all at the same time!
With many students from different backgrounds and languages including, but not limited to, Spanish, Pashto, Farsi, and Vietnamese, a hands-on experience that is universal plays a huge role in their learning.
They will learn more by doing. A kinesthetic experience in science benefits all students, but it will definitely aide ELL students in their learning of the Earth and the world around us! I hope to bring science to life for them!
