My Project
I am going to take a field study course on river ecosystems of my state. To participate, I need chest waders and wading boots for safe work in and around mountain streams and valley rivers. Water sampling and testing equipment, field guides, and other materials will be provided as part of the course.
I am eager to learn more about the watersheds of my state and study the freshwater ecosystems from headwaters in the mountains, through creeks, streams, and rivers to improve the curriculum and activities I offer my students in both aquatic studies and science classes.
I would like to teach my students more about the sources and destinations of water in our state, how humans have regulated and harnessed the flow of water, and how this affects the economy of our state and the native flora and fauna.
Many students in my school experience programs through Trout in the Classroom and the Marine Mammal Center, and I would like to take this further by offering new activities to all students through our integrated science curriculum as well as the creeks that flow on three sides of our school campus. It will be great to teach students about the connections between environmental science and financial literacy.
