Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my school are wonderful, kind, and hard-working; they never let where they come from hold them back and keep them from achieving their goals! My students love to come to school everyday and oddly hate vacations. My students cherish our daily reading time and work to challenge themselves in class every day. They are very self-motivated given that most of their parents work 2 or 3 jobs and offer very little support at home. My students are going to influence the world and nothing will stand in their way!
My Project
School libraries are often made up of books that are primarily fiction. Many students prefer nonfiction, and since there are fewer nonfiction books to choose from, students often decide that reading is not for them or is boring. By helping me purchase a wide variety of nonfiction books on topics from sports to history to science, you will be opening the door of reading for fun to a whole new group of students. Also, authors are now creating nonfiction texts in graphic novel form helping fiction lovers enjoy reading more about the real world too.
