My Project
Young children are naturally curious! Help me use that curiosity to teach them about nature. Growing plants from seeds and raising butterflies from caterpillars takes time. The waiting and watching will help teach patience.
Caring for the flowers and raising butterflies will encourage their curiosity, prompt them to ask questions, develop observation skills, and give them a sense of responsibility.
Students will increase their scientific thinking by making a hypothesis about what will happen when they put the seed in the dirt. Math skills will come into play when they chart how many days it takes for a seed to sprout or for a butterfly to emerge from a cocoon. Students will use their fine motor skills to draw or use clay to make representations of what the observe. These materials will allow my students will see how things grow, learn new vocabulary, and hopefully develop a love of nature. While they are patiently waiting, they will have the flower garden building set. This set will help students learn the parts of the flowers and butterflies, foster their imagination, and promote fine motor skills.
