This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a social worker, we are often not incorporated into the ordering of materials. Focus is typically on curriculum for reading and math. But I work with students with significant limitations and high needs in areas of social, emotional and behavioral areas. Engaging them in the learning about their challenges, experiences and the tools that exist within themselves is an uphill battle. But using dated, black and white materials to teach them doesn't help engagement. When my students are given a visual in front of them, that is theirs to keep and it is filled with vibrant colors their excitement and eagerness to engage with the visual is so exciting to see.
